A Tribute To Nurses

If you are a nurse and looking for an amazing assignment, great housing, top pay and a simply astonishing location... think about Las Vegas!

It’s been my experience that there are still many traveling nurses who only perceive Las Vegas as a glitzy gambling attraction where unparalleled extravagant shows and Elvis impersonators abound; in fact, this is just a tiny portion of the town’s appeal.  You’ll have access to so much fun.

A Buddhist story originating in South Asia tells of five blind men who each touch an elephant to learn what it is like. Each only touches one part, the tusk, the trunk, etc., and in the end they find that they are all in complete disagreement indicating that reality can differ, based on an individual's perception. In this way, the city of Las Vegas, Nevada now outshines all its' own past stereotypes of being a gambling mecca, and not much more. There truly is something for every person, no matter what you enjoy.

I have had many traveling nurses who have completed PICU, ICU, ER, CVICU, and other assignments there, and the reviews from each travel nurse are different and exciting. In a parallel to the nursing industry itself, just as there is a different nursing specialty for each different nurse and their preferences, Las Vegas offers a rich variety of experiences from which to choose.

One thing that mobile nurses like is that the hospital is generally fast to staff for their needs-nurses don't have to wait forever for interviews. The housing is superb, and the pay is very generous, and the assignments are enjoyable. Whether or not you enjoy the glitter and high activity of the many casinos, you can be assured that the travel assignments in Las Vegas are never a gamble!

It's been my experience that there are still many traveling nurses who only perceive Las Vegas as a glitzy gambling attraction where unparalleled extravagant shows and Elvis impersonators abound; in fact, this is just a tiny portion of the town's appeal. You'll have access to so much fun.

One of my favorite RN travelers, Linda, recently commented on her experience on her ICU assignment in Vegas insisted, "The biggest thing I can say is, don't get stuck in the casinos, because there is so much more there to see and do. The Valley of Fire is the most beautiful place to go. There's lots of sightseeing-petroglyphs, rock formations, old homesteads, hiking, biking-what a wonderful place. There are wildlife refuges, botanical gardens, and the outlet stores there are great."

Also, RN travel in Las Vegas puts you just a few hours from Los Angeles, California. In other words, if you should find yourself in the mood for another big-city experience, you have access to cheap airfares or a short drive, and you really can have the best of two worlds.

While mobile nursing in Vegas, if you love the outdoors, you'll have so many chances to experience beauty. Lake Mead has camping, boating, swimming, fishing, wildlife, hiking-- all things that represent your best summer vacation. Red Rock Canyon Conservation area is just a few miles west of Las Vegas and provides almost 200,000 acres of geologic interest. If you miss the mountains, then visit Mount Charleston, where temperatures generally average about 30 degrees cooler, and you can surround yourself with nature and the scents of juniper and Ponderosa pine trees.

Anyway, whether you've considered accepting a temporary nursing assignment in Las Vegas or not, there's no question that you'll be surrounded by world-class opportunities-the dining features hundreds of culinary treasures inspired by A-List chefs where the finest wait staff caters to your every desire. Some of the best shopping in the world is here, whether you're browsing for fine jewelry, art objects in the galleries, or that incredible outlet deal with almost 150 stores at your fingertips. If you want to tee up, you can play your game on world renowned golf courses. And, finally, remember that, if you ARE in the mood to experience great nightlife any time of day (other than New York City) Las Vegas really is the "city that never sleeps".

If you visit Las Vegas as an American mobile nurse on assignment, you'll definitely want to plan a trip to see the Fremont Street experience, where there are free concerts, the biggest screen on the planet towers 90 feet over the mall, featuring concert quality sound, ten casinos, and roaming street performers.

If you want to visit a museum, treat yourself by visiting Madame Tussaud's Interactive Wax Museum or the Guggenheim at the Venetian. If you bring your kids, they'll enjoy the Lieds Children's Museum. For the kid in yourself, perhaps you'll enjoy the Stratosphere Hotel Roller Coaster; or if you're an animal lover, you can experience the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, or the MGM's Lion Habitat.

SHORTS AND SANDAL WEATHER
Weather in Las Vegas, you ask? Yes, it's definitely toasty in the summer, with July being the hottest month, cranking up to over 100 degrees of desert heat. Swimming pools and air conditioning abound, and for most of the year, the weather is never too cold. By springtime, it's warm, dry, and comfortable-bring out the shorts and sandals, and put away your socks; you won't need them; you can chill out in your Tevas or strut your stuff in your cute boots.

TRANSPORTATION
Transportation isn't a problem, either. RTC provides various forms of transport including the CAT, a Metro Area Express (MAX, and a double-decker bus service for 46 different routes, and 336 vehicles. If you're a nurse traveler who wants to avoid the several rush hours (Vegas has four, due to shift workers in the casinos), you'll discover that it's easy to get around.

If you are a mobile travel nurse who wants a great experience, do yourself a favor, and consider taking an assignment in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like nursing, there truly is something for everyone, the very best of everything. And isn't that why you travel in the first place?
